You reading this blog post could possibly mean that you are interested and would like to know more on how to start doing online jobs and experience the benefits and freedom it offers. If your answer is a big YES, you are on the right page. In today’s post, I would like to share 3 different ways you can take to get started. For the past few months, I’ve been asked more than I can count how to get started doing online jobs and find clients. My answer is always “It depends.”. Oftentimes, some people aren’t satisfied with my answer and frown at it, as my answer is followed by more questions from me. But for your sake, my readers, allow me to spare you with those questions and simply give you the 3 ways you can take based on your circumstances and just let you to decide which path to take.
1) “Jump-Right-In” Approach
This approach, “Jump-Right-In” approach, is mostly taken by courageous, very confident and highly esteemed individuals. The mindset of people who take this approach is, “I am good and I know I can do this”. The typical type of action people who follow this approach is whenever they see an online job posting, they go ahead, ask questions, send their resume and put on high hopes of getting the job.
If you look at it, there may be nothing wrong about this. However, it has lots of disadvantages and risks involved. Being someone who took this path when I was starting out, I ended up not getting paid by some clients because I didn’t know any better. I simply applied for the job, provided the requested information and that’s it. With this approach, there are chances that you’ll end up not getting the best possible online work for you because you simply based everything on what you think you know and relied on your over the top confidence. I strongly discourage people from taking this path because there is no guarantee that the person will succeed if everything is based on confidence alone. There are other things that an “Online Freelancing” wannabe must have and do. This leads to the 2nd type of approach.
2) “Ask Google” Approach
This 2nd approach, which I call “Ask Google”, is a far better path to take for someone who has the confidence and courage to get started. Simply put, the “Ask Google” approach is nothing but “Self-Study”. As you are aware, you can find lots of information online on how to get started and find an online job (You are already reading one right now… hehe). It’s simply a matter of knowing how to research and find the information you need. I know many individuals who had succeeded on starting their online career because they did their homework and research online. The problem with this approach though is the possibility of experiencing “information overload”.
For instance, a friend of mine shared to me her story on how she got started doing online work. She said that she was the type of person who’s very detail oriented and does a lot of research. She found lots of resource online and even bought a training program. Unfortunately, instead of gaining enough knowledge from them, she experienced information overload. With so much information to consume, she still couldn’t figure out how to use all those knowledge to get her started. She realized she still needs someone to guide and coach her on how to apply the things she had learned. She admits that she needs help. Gladly, she took my advice and followed the 3rd kind of approach, the “Hand-Holding” approach.
3) “Hand-Holding” Approach
The last and the best approach for me, is what I call the “Hand-Holding” approach. This basically means to seek for someone who can guide, coach and mentor you in starting your online jobs career. This is the best approach because having the experience, wisdom and support of someone who “has-been-there” and “have-done-that” will shorten your learning curve and increase your chances of success. Nowadays, there are so many online freelancers who are willing to share their time and knowledge to help others get started. I am one proof that such thing exist. I am sure there are many others out there. You can also join groups and communities online where you can seek and ask questions. You can join my community in Facebook, “Online Jobs Support Network“, where we try our best to answer all questions asked by our members. It’s FREE to join. Simply click this LINK and it will open a new window showing you our group in Facebook.
So there you have it, the 3 approaches that you can take starting from the least popular and risky, up to the best and high chance of success. How about you? Do you know other approach when it comes to starting your online career? Feel free to share them in the comments section below. Until next time. God bless!
